Reading Your Tire Size Isn't As Difficult As It May Seem

When buying a new set of tires it is important to know and understand what it is that you actually need. Your tire size will be printed on the sidewall of your existing tires, but that code can be confusing to read unless you know how to break it down.

So as an example, if you have a tire size showing as P235/75R15 then that breaks down as follows:

  • The P means that the tire type is for a passenger vehicle.
  • 235 is the tire width. In this case it would be 235 millimeters.
  • 75 is the aspect ratio, meaning that this tire's height is equal to 75% of its width.
  • The R signifies the tire's construction. R in this case stands for radial.
  • Finally the 15 at the end designates the wheel size that the tire will fit. In this case the tire will fit on a 15-wheel.

If you have any more questions about tire sizing, please ask one of the experts here at Tulley Mazda in Nashua, NH.
