Ways to Increase Your Fuel Economy

With gas prices fluctuating many of us are wondering how we can make the most of what's in our tank and save money in the process. Did you know that the way you drive can affect your car's fuel economy? You can make some small changes to your driving style that will decrease fuel consumption by up to 20%.

  • Remove excess weight from your car. Driving with a heavy load causes the engine to burn more fuel.
  • Use the air conditioner as little as possible. Using the a/c burns gas so if it's nice outside just roll your windows down.
  • Remove the roof racks when they are not in use. They create extra drag on your car which burns more fuel.
  • Keeping your car properly maintained is another great way to save fuel. Routine oil changes and proper tire maintenance are key in getting good gas mileage.
  • Don't let your car sit idle for too long. This burns fuel unnecessarily. If you're going to be sitting for longer than 30 seconds.
